For the Love of CSS
It's been a while since I've submitted an article to my blog here, so I thought today since I feel so inspired by CSS puzzling that I'd submit my thoughts about CSS and how I work with it along with some useful resources I use.
Firstly CSS3 is the latest thing in town and it is AWESOME! unfortunately at this stage its still not widely supported but to see it in action you only need to browse a few posts on www.smashingmagazine.com where they showcase it's exciting new features such as: Opacity, drop shadows, multiple backgrounds and so much more.
When I'm coding in CSS I dont always remember the syntax and just a simple google search sets me back on track. I always start off with an idea of what I'd like to do and then I set about puzzling my way to a solution, afterwardds I'll go through the code and optimise it. I like to work clean using indents as this makes it easy to see where things are - comments are invaluble! Browser-wise I use firefox especially during development phase, Google Chrome is awesome for speed and feature support - I highly recommend it! If you dont have it get it here: http://www.google.com/chrome it will make browsing the web faster and may even make you more attractive to the opposite sex.
I started off as a plain graphic designer, but with a little time and effort I learned CSS and html coding pretty easily. I'm now working on php and if I can offer one piece of advice - If there is anything in life you want as surely as you put in the time and effort you will eventually attain it.
Other tools that make my life better:
- Firebug module extension for Firefox
- Developers Toolbar
One day I'll learn about subversion and Javascript,I know my destination just not the path there yet ;)
